Everything you need to get you started (or restarted) on your sewing journey


Do you have a sewing machine gathering dust that you would love to use but don't know where to start?  Come along and learn the basics.  By the end of the day you will go home with the skills to get you going and will have completed a sewing project.


What will be covered?

  • How to set up and use a sewing machine

  • What equipment is needed 

  • Fundamental sewing techniques

  • How to use a sewing pattern

  • Pinning and cutting out

  • Sewing project

  • ...and lots of other hacks, tips and tricks along the way!


If you have a sewing machine, bring it along so you can get to know your machine at the same time.  If you don't have a machine, you are welcome to use a school one.


What to bring:

  • Your sewing machine (if you have one)

  • Any sewing equipment you already have eg. pins, thread, chalk, needle etc.

  • Morning tea and lunch


What is provided:

  • All the fabric required

  • Patterns 

  • Project Kit

  • Sewing machine (if required)

  • Sewing equipment

This course is supported by the TEC (Tertiary Education Commission) to assist with literacy, numeracy and wellbeing needs of students. You must attend 80% of the class. At the same time we hope you will learn other useful and interesting skills and have a lot of fun learning with us.
