Crocheting is fun, fast and fantastic!

Have you always wanted to learn how to crochet but didn’t know where to start? This friendly, step-by-step class is designed especially for complete beginners, with plenty of guidance and encouragement along the way.

The first classes will concentrate on learning basic stitches, reading patterns and following diagrams. By the end of the first class you will have learned how to crochet in straight rows using different stitches. Once you have mastered that, you will begin to make a simple corner-to-corner square that you can turn into a washcloth, a baby’s blanket, or a larger blanket for yourself or to give away.

By the third or fourth week, you will learn how to work in a circle by making your own project bag. In the final couple of weeks, you may like to use the time to either finish your projects or tackle a variety of motifs that can be joined together to create a blanket or pillow.

When you have mastered your first projects, you may like to join a continuer’s class, where you are sure to be inspired to take your skills even further. Your tutor will also bring along some of her own projects to inspire and motivate you as you begin your adventures in the creative world of crochet.

What to bring:

  • Week 1 – 2: A 4 mm crochet hook & four coordinating colours of 8 ply or double knitting yarn (you only need remnants, not full balls of yarn for the first classes).
  • Weeks 3 – 4:  Once you have chosen the project you would like to make you will be required to bring your own materials.

(Crochet hooks and yarn not available from tutor)

Andrea Dobbs:

Some would say I am an obsessive crocheter. Very rarely am I seen without a crochet hook and my latest project either in my hands or tucked into my bag (ready to pull out at any spare moment I can get a few stitches in). I’ve been crocheting since I was seven and remember spending hours making my dolls’ clothes and accessories. Over the years I have made countless blankets and baby shawls for family and friends. I have especially loved designing and making a unique special blanket for each of my grandchildren. Many of my projects are inspired by the amazing talent of fellow crocheters who have pinned their creations on Pinterest. While I’ve made my own designs for years, I am currently beginning to write my own patterns.

One of the pleasures I gain from crocheting is sharing the skill and pleasure with others. I can also personally attest to the therapeutic and healing nature creating with hook and yarn.
